From the NAEYC Code of Ethics, I chose:
I-1.3—To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.
I-1.5—To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions.
From the DEC Code of Ethics, I chose:
“We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture” (DEC, 2000).
I chose these three ideals because I believe that it is important to encourage individual growth and development in children. Every child is unique and has unique skills and abilities. Children also learn differently. As a result, it is important for educators to research family cultures and values to make the classroom more representative and inclusive for all children. Furthermore, it is important to provide a safe and healthy classroom environment promotes each child’s development.

Hi Elnora, I agree every child is unique in their own way. We should honor every one's values, custom and belief. I feel very strong about these codes of ethics. It is nice to see someone else feeling the same way.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Elnora, I believe that a program or a professional that fosters the development of the 'whole' child is a program working in the right direction for the betterment of children. I also believe it is equally important to repect children and their contributions to society. Many times I wonder what I would do if I didn't have a community of such great helpers in my classroom. Each one has a special talent and gift they bring to the environment.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Every child learns different and I think that is a challenging job that every teacher has to deal with. A calm and inviting learning environment is important.
ReplyDeleteThese codes are very important in caring for children. Caregivers must strive to maintain a safe and healthy settings for each and every child under their care while Recognizing and respecting them as they're unique individuals.
ReplyDeleteI think that as teachers we are at a new stage in education where there is so much diversity in our classrooms that we have a responsibility to address their differences. Being able to connect with parents and allow them some stock in our classroom will give us a better understanding of our students and their learning styles/habits.
