My Hypothetical Family Situation

I have created my ideal family situation based on a scenario of a realistic family.  The family's culture, race, and economic conditions are within realistic limits.  I also plan to create the program based on the type of information I have learned in the course.  The family is an African American family located in Northwest Mississippi.  The family has three children and a mother and stepfather.  The stepfather is currently unemployed and the mother does not work.  The family lives off government assistance and food stamps.  The goal is to create a system that provides the family access to early childhood education services.

  1. So many families are currently unemployed and still have to take care of their families. When families rely on the government for assistance, it can be difficult for them to even know where to even start looking for assistance. For many families they only know of services provided by the government. Many do not know about private organizations.

  2. Elnora,
Making sure the family has access to early childhood education services sounds like an excellent idea to open new doors and opportunities for this family. Many early childhood programs have programs in place to help the parents receive additional education and training that can help them secure employment. Good luck and thanks for sharing!

  3. This is a scenario that I have seen many times. It is hard for families with multiple kids when one parent is out of work.

  4. I think hospitals, and pediatricians should reach out to organizations/agencies/state foundations that apply to families and their children and follow up with them from the hospital. Children with physical or mental illness/special needs would appreciate a helping hand. Families struggle more when their unprepared with situations that may cause not only them but their children to be in despair. Single parents who are already struggling don't always make best judgement's to improve their life styles and need all the help and resources they can.
