The public opinion is fairly good for quality early childhood education. The problem is that there is not enough funding for early childhood programs. Head Start is needed to provide disadvantaged children with a foundation for education. These children perform better later in school if they have access to quality programs. However, the lack of funding shows that a greater focus has to be placed on the benefits of early childhood education programs.
My hope for Head Start is to increase funding for the Head Start program. Children need Head Start to help develop their educational skills and provide nutrition. A change in public opinion will help get the needed revenues and resources to provide more access to Head Start. The key is to provide information and research showing the benefits of Head Start. Once funding increases, more families will have access to Head Start.
I totally agree more funding for Head Start is necessary so all children who qualify can access this tremendous program. Unfortunately not all Head Start programs are equal in their ability to provide services and so in some cases public opinion is skewed by negative media about this imbalance. It is important to have research and positive information shared far and wide to help create the positive image necessary to support Head Start.
ReplyDeleteI agree Head Start definitly needs more funding. It is such a great program for not only the children but only the families as well. It is a shame that many people do not support the organization and only see it as a daycare rather than the foundation to education for the children. Opening the public's eye through reasearch would be a huge step to prove how much the program is needed.

ReplyDeleteFunding seems to be at the heart of the issues Head Star faces. The program has such a great impact on the lives of children and families. Advocating for more funding seems to be something EC professionals should collaborate and do.
