Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

This week, I listened to podcasts on the World Forum Foundation website.  The podcast from India discussed how poverty was limiting the education of young children.  I was surprised to hear this information because India is not a third world country.  Yet, poverty is an issue for a large share of the population.  Similarly, in American many families are impacted by poverty.  As a result, I can use information from the podcasts to assess how poverty is handled in other countries. It may be possible to use these programs to assist children in the United States.  Therefore, I plan to focus more on research and global programs addressing poverty.

  1. Elnora,
I am interested in finding out more about how India supports its children? How do they assess poverty and what programs do they have in place to reduce poverty?

  2. I read the Childhood Poverty Research and Policy Centre’s page and I also learned some interesting facts about poverty in India. The website shared information that was dated, but I plan to follow up and research current facts and statistics. On the page, there were details on the retention rate of children and the decline in support for continued education. I look forward to you sharing the information from the podcast.

  3. I also did research on India and found it sad that they have to pay for school even at an early age. So many kids in the US take school for granted and play around or dropout but I bet if parents had to pay for school they would take it more serious.
